for grades 3 to 5.
Join us each
week for a different theme and activity designed to increase girls’ self-esteem,
body image, and social support.
During this program girls will:
· Develop
connections & feel included

strong interpersonal skills
· Strengthen
self-care & well-being, even under stress
· Dissolve
barriers to respect, confidence & empathy

$20 Sewing Workshops LYSB presents: Sewing Workshops! If you've always wanted to learn how to sew on a sewing machine join your friends at LYSB . Have fun and learn something new! Ages 8 and up. No experience necessary. Sewing machines provided. Class is taught by arts educator Claudia Mathison. Class limit is ten. Pre-register by calling LYSB at 434-7208 x0.
FEBRUARY SESSION:
4 Thursdays, Feb 2, 9, 16 & 23 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Learn the basics of machine sewing while designing accessories for your room, including heart shaped pillows and other fun accessories. Fee: $75 includes materials.
MARCH SESSION:
4 Thursdays: March 1, 8, 15, & 22 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Aprons, oven mitts, pot holders!
Be a “domestic diva” while sewing and
designing pretty and functional items to keep you and your family clean in the
kitchen
Fee: $75 includes materials.
APRIL SESSION:
3 Thursdays April 5, 19 & 26 from 4:00 to 6:00.
Learn basic sewing techniques and design one of a
kind purses, small totes, and spring scarves.
Learn to sew buttons and zippers to complete
your projects.
For students with some prior machine sewing
experience..
Fee: $70 includes materials.

Community CPR & AED Training for Adults and Teens Monday, January 30, 2012, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm OR Friday, March 2nd, 2012, 6:00-9:00 pm If a family member, friend or infant in your care had a cardiac or first aid emergency in your presence, could you recognize the signs and respond quickly and appropriately? This course is based on the curriculum of the American Heart Association and teaches the public how to perform CPR, use the AED, and relieve foreign body airway obstructions for adults, children, and infants. Plan to spend 3 hours learning and practicing the skills necessary to save a life. Wear comfortable clothing as this is a hands-on course. Doug LoPresti and Colleen Atkinsons, EMTs, will teach you everything you need to know to provide quality care during a cardiac or choking emergency. Fee: $50 includes certification and card. FAMILY FIRST AID Monday, February 27 - 6:00-9:00 PM Everyone knows how to put on a band-aid and kiss a boo-boo but sometimes that isn't enough. Chances are, you will have to do more than this at some time to someone in your family. Doug Lo Presti and Colleen Atkinson, EMTs, will teach you American Heart Association First Aid including Basic First Aid, Medical Emergencies, Injury Emergencies, and Environmental Emergencies. This interactive hands-on class is designed for anyone ages 13 and up who wants to know what to do "before the ambulance arrives". AHA 2-year certification. Sitter Safety Course Four Mondays: March 5,12, 19, 26, 2010, 2:15-4:00 p.m. Fee: $40 includes supplies, snacks, guest speakers This is an intense sitter safety training course that is appropriate for babysitters, big brothers and sisters, and children staying at home alone for the first time. Mother/Daughter Workshop: Let's start talking Spring 2012 date tba, 6:30PM-8:30PM Please contact LYSB @ 434-7208 to register Open the lines of communication with your daughter! Designed to give girls a better understanding of the changes that her body will go through during puberty. Topics will include the importance of a positive body image and how to deal with difficult situations. A fun and educational night out for girls in 4th and 5th grade and their mothers. Cost is $40 per pair and includes resource materials, goodie bags and a pizza dinner.
Mother Daughter Workshop: Beyond the Birds and the Bees… Spring date tba Join us at LYSB for a fun, informational evening
designed to give girls a better understanding of the physical, emotional and
social implications of sexual activity, and give moms an opportunity to have
this important discussion. Mothers and daughters will participate in activities to: • highlight the influence of the media on attitudes… • help clarify values regarding sexual activity
(what do I think is ok, and what is not ok for me to do?)… • emphasize the immense responsibility associated
with being sexually active. (how does a pregnancy occur and what are
STD’s?)… • provide girls with the information they need to
make the best choices for themselves… This program is for girls in 8th & 9th
grade and their mothers. Cost is $40 per pair and includes resource materials and
a pizza dinner. Patty Cournoyer, a health educator facilitates this
