The Mission of Community Action for Substance Free Youth (CASFY) is to prevent and reduce alcohol and other drug use among youth by collaborating with the community to raise awareness, modify social norms, educate youth and adults, initiate policy change and promote healthy activities.

Current Activities:

bullet

“Sticker shock”: Placing stickers on alcohol products and store bags that say:  “Hey You!  Providing alcohol to a person under 21 is illegal.  It can get you 18 months in prison and a $1,500 fine.  Please don’t take the risk.”  Aimed at young adults who may be providing alcohol to underage friends and relatives.  Thank-you to A&P Wine and Spirits, Coffee’s Market, Rogers Lake Liquor Shoppe, Rooney’s Package Store, Andy’s Deli, Cool Moose and H.L. Reynolds.

bullet

“The Easiest Place for Kids to Get Beer is right next to the milk:”  A year-long media campaign on sanitation trucks, banners, posters and special mailings to remind parents to monitor and secure alcohol in their homes.  Thank-you to Gary Yuknat of Shoreline Sanitation and John Morrison of Connecticut Sign for their contributions to this project.

bullet

Party patrols:  Hiring extra police officers to patrol specifically for teen parties in “out of the way” places or in homes where alcohol or other drugs may be used.  Thank-you to Old Lyme Police Officers Martin Lane and Tom Heinssen for their extra efforts on this project.
